About Community Shares of Mid Ohio
Community Shares of Mid Ohio is a coalition of locally based, non-profit organizations collaboratively participating in workplace giving campaigns. Since 1993, Community Shares has grown to more than 60 member charities that use funds from workplace giving campaigns to solve a wide range of issues in the community by providing long-term solutions geared toward prevention, fairness, and equality.
In addition, Community Shares establishes a strong financial base to ensure the continual existence and stability of our member charities. We enhance the capacity of our members to accomplish their missions through funding, leadership development, training, and education.
Community Shares allows people of all income levels to make donations, making philanthropy more inclusive and diverse. Workplace giving campaigns are a time and cost effective vehicle for increasing the resources available across the community because donors specify the amount and the member charity that will receive their donation. Their funds will be allocated to the organizations that represent the causes within the community that the donor cares about most.
Community Shares is focused on the well being of the whole community. Other non-profits, like the United Way, establish priorities among health and human service programs. Community Shares is unique because we work with many charities that contribute to the community's quality of life, such as environmental and human rights groups, that are ineligible for funding through United Way, but are essential to the community's health, welfare, and progress.
Community Shares has a locally based Board of Trustees comprised of representatives from our member charities that make decisions and provide leadership. Through this leadership and by working together, we defend human and civil rights, feed the hungry, build affordable housing, prevent family, youth, school and neighborhood violence, preserve the environment, and increase health, safety, education, social justice and democracy in our community.
